Plus Size Fashion: Lola’s African Apparel

Story time! I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Lola backstage at one of the runway shows I walked for in San Fransisco (Lola pictured below), now I wasn’t walking for Lola but loved her designs so much that during a down time in rehearsals I asked for her social media handle so I could follow her brand and show support to a local designer I loved! Little did I know just how incredible Lola and her brand truly are.

Lola was born in Nigeria and immigrated to the US at a young age, she frequently traveled back and was inspired by the elegant and beautiful clothes that people wore, she had the idea to employ local seamstresses and tailors to bring her business to life making her garments artistically and authentically made by Africans. After sharing her creations with her community here in the US and seeing the positive response Lola then created Lola’s African Apparel!

Beautiful, bright, and stunning colors! Gorgeous prints! She chooses the most durable materials, works with local Nigerian artists, and she makes sure the fabrics are washable to continue accessibility. She carries a little something for everyone – children, men, plus, maternity, and she also has created face masks! Lola is proud to be a part of building the economy and supporting the livelihoods of the African people who share their craft with us, and is proud to have her garments made in Nigeria.

Below I’m wearing the beautiful Yemi Stretch Crop Top – I have to tell you Loves not only is the print stunning in its bold colors but the imagery is just stunning! The dramatic sleeve makes my heart pitter patter in gleeful joy – the movement is just gorgeous and the fabric isn’t heavy at all!! The fit was perfect! Tight where I needed it tight, loose in the best places – my arms! I have large arms and not once did it feel like I was shoving my arm in something too snug that would cut off circulation, it felt comfortable and could have easily fit me if I had been larger. For reference I wear an 18/20 and was wearing the 3X and is definitely say if your a 22 you’d easily fit in this top as well.

The first look using this top I decided to style it with a set of white suspenders to play off the small black stripe that has tiny white polka dots running through the print. I added a tight black pencil skirt, cute white ankle socks and fun tennis to complete this fall look.

When stepping out, don’t forget your mask – Lola even offers beautiful masks made from her stunning prints!

The second look I paired this gorgeous crop top with denim pants and the perfect accessory for Fall – black knee high boots.

The third look I created with this stunning crop top shows you can absolutely wear this beauty any time, any place. I was the queen of casual for grocery shopping trip but still managed to turns heads in this stunning top! paired with leggings, mules, and mask for a quick and stylish errand run!

Until next time Loves!
