All right My Loves let’s dive in to Look One with the Dimensional Sweater:

I chose to pair this sweater with a pair of blue leggings and blue winter boots trimmed with white – the perfect Mom outfit for running errands around with the little one. This is the perfect outfit for comfort and chic by pairing with boots and leggings, not to mention easy to throw together with minimal effort but the result is Mom-chic cute!

Now, I have to say Look Two is my FAVORITE!! The Plaid Trouser is to DIE FOR! I love the amazing purple hues of the plaid, I love how well tailored the trousers felt on, and I loved how deep the pockets are making them functional – Mama loves a good pocket.

I chose to pair this look with a black crop top, fuzzy winter jacket, and a pair of black heels. By choosing to pair the trousers with muted colors, like black, the eye is immediately caught by that gorgeous purple!

Look Three is also a fun more bold look using The jogger Pant! Now as a petite babe I have to be careful with “jogger/harem” style pants because the extra fabric in the design paired with short legs I can sometimes get swamped down by that extra fabric around the ankles and the effect is less than pleasing – to say the least lol it throws off my proportions and looks wonky. Not the case here!!

I chose to pair this amazing pant with a a fitted black tank, a cropped white long sleeve tie top, black leather jacket and a pair of brown chunky booties.

And last, but certainly not least The Long Sleeve Tunic: this top is uber comfortable AND fit fabulously! There was no squeezing my bigger arms in to the sleeves so that meant not having to size up in the top.

I paired this look with distressed denim shorts, mule flats, oversized sunglasses and a red purse that matched my lipstick. With the two bolder looks above I wanted to show my Mom side again: this top is comfortable, has a very classic yet professional look, has amazing room for chasing my toddler, still casual yet chic – this is one of those looks that takes two minutes to throw together and leaves you looking fabulous and ready for whatever the day has in store.

Here’s a fun style session video discussing fit, fabric, and styling!

Fat Positive Sacramento: Galore Studios

Hey Loves! I’ve decided to add a new feature to my blog and we’re calling it: Fat Positive Sacramento! In these features I’ll introduce you Loves to businesses that are not only accepting of fat bodies but don’t shame them in anyway shape or form. I’ll discuss accessibility, how I was treated, what service I bought or was provided for so on. This is my way of letting plus bodies know that these businesses respect your body and that’s where you should be spending those fat dollars 😉

So in this first feature of Fat Postive Sacramento I wanted to introduce you all the amazing woman owned salon that is Galore Studios !!

Now first off I discovered Galore Studios in a casting call looking for promo models to shoot for media advertising – I LOVE that when I reached out and asked if they wanted to work with a plus model the immediate answer was a huge resounding YES! After shooting with this business I went back to try out a full set of gel nails and have kept coming back!

Accessibility: open parking lot, no stairs, open floor plan so you won’t feel cramped or stuffed in anywhere. The waxing services take place in their own room separate from the main display room. I’m a size 20 and the chairs all fit me comfortably.

I have uberly sensitive nail beds, acrylic tends to rip them up and leave behind only layers of nail so when Marie (the amazing owner) told me she only deals in full gel… Well, I was in heaven. And as we got to chatting we began to talk about her business and how she wants to be apart of the body positive community and truly offer services that most salons scoff at when a fat body is asking for them.

I’m talking they offer:

Waxing

Facials

Manis/Pedis

Full Gel Sets

Piercings

Spa Party

Lashes

Hair

Makeup application

Makeup selection shopping

Want to shop with friends – they’ve got you by offering a makeup service party!

Kids parties!

They literally do it all!! And what’s even better is that they want to work with All Walks Of Life! LGBTQ+ , Fat Bodies, Disabled Bodies… essentially if you’ve got a body, a decent attitude, and some money to book a service then yes, they want to work with you.

This beautiful salon is located at 3811 Florin Rd #4, Sacramento, CA 95823

Stay tuned, I’ll be filming a waxing service and facial with Galore soon!!

Until next time,

Kat XO

Treat yourself on a Budget: Barefoot Scientist

So as a mostly single income family home we live pretty strictly to our budget, which usually means things like pedicures get put pretty low on the list of priorities… BUT self care is important and I love taking care of my feet. I mean, let’s face it – it’s one of the body parts that tends to get abused the most. So in an effort to keep taking care of my feet I’ve found a budget friendly treatment that feels oh so nice and helped clear away the callus build up. My feet have never felt better and the whole process was painless! Let me introduce you Loves to Barefoot Scientist !

Barefoot Scientist is a new premium foot care product designed to give those tootsies the TLC they deserve. Crafted with advanced science and the best ingredients from around the world to nourish skin, freshen your step, and ease your pain.

Now I want to show you Loves my feet before product and after product so you get a good idea on how well this stuff works!

Before: I had a lot of callus build up all over my feet because it had actually been over a year since I had a pedicure or foot treatment. And even if with regular applications of lotion you can clearly see how dried out my skin is.

Now, The steps are easy:

Soak your feet for ten minutes.

Put on the paper booties with the gel and wear for the time recommended.

Take off booties, rinse me off and the peel works over the span of about a week, and you can go about your business! That easy – now, I loved that this process wasn’t intense and was made to work gradually with time, as well as being painless. I’ve don’t chemical treatments of my foot that left my skin feeling like it was on fire!

They also suggest helping the peel along by soaking your feet and rubbing the excess skin away over the course of six to seven day.

These are updates from day three:

Gross, I know, lol BUT look how well the treatment actually lifted the dead skin away. And again it was completely painless. The only weird thing was not putting any lotion or moisturizer on my skin during the week the treatment was working.

Day Six:

Most of the shedding has already occurred, still small pieces here and there that where still working with the product. This was also the day I started using the Barefoot Scientist High Dive lotion and Oh My Goodness – this stuff feels like butter on my feet and the level of moisturizing it brings to the skin on my feet feels amazing! My skin isn’t as dry, I’ve noticed no sensitivity, and the feel of my skin is so smooth it just feels amazing!

Day Ten:

My feet feel amazing!! They look amazing! And I’m such a fan of Barefoot Scientist that I will seriously be a customer for life!

Until next time my Loves,

Grieving: It’s OK to not be OK

Yesterday was my GrammyBear’s birthday, she passed away from cancer almost eight months ago and I struggle with the grief of missing her every day… Which is why I decided to work on this piece; for those grieving, going through the loss of someone you love or are preparing yourself for loss – you are not alone, and this is how I handled my loss.

Before I begin I want to start with the fact that EVERYONE GRIEVES DIFFERENTLY and as long as you are not hurting yourself physically or mentally or hurting others, then I say feel what you are going to feel… I also want to add that death tends to either bring out the best or worst in people so prepare yourself by enforcing boundaries that keep you sane and healthy during this heartbreaking time.

I wanted to talk about the grieving process for quite some time but just felt due to my mental health that I wasn’t ready… When I visited my grandmothers grave for the first time after her service I believe, as I was leaving I received my sign that I was ready… As my husband drove me out of the cemetery we heard an acorn fall on the roof and strike it three times. When we got out to look for it there wasn’t a single acorn under that tree or our truck except for the solitary one that struck our roof. The thing is… my Grammy loved little acorns and even left me a brooch that holds acorns, and the three knocks – well I think she was just saying hi and letting us know she heard us and felt us , and appreciated us thinking of her. And with her “sign” I felt like I was ready… Ready to start talking, ready to remember with tears AND happiness, and to know that I’ll never really get over losing her but with time it helps to make things more bearable.

One of the things that helped during her hospice care was this little book the wonderful nurses provided: Gone From My Sight: The Dying Experience – this book was very short and basic but had helpful and useful information and also brought me some comfort. Those dealing with hospice care and are unsure of what to expect – this one is for you. Especially appreciated the lack of religion aspect; although my grandmother was a devoted Christian I’m not and didn’t need the overly religious texts at that moment – I needed facts and a very straightforward approach and this book provided me that.

Music is one of the things that truly helped me during trying times, transporting me to a place of safety and nurturing… Soothing my soul in ways words couldn’t…. Music saved my sanity in times when I felt the grief was too dark and I just needed comfort provided by a soul I didn’t have to pretend everything was ok in front of. W

Another aspect that seriously helped was talking. That’s right just talking – chatting about how my Grammy introduced me to the King and all things swing that helped create the vintage-retro loving gal I am today, chatting about how my Grammy would both love and hate my new tattoo, or how I wished I had written down her secret family recipe for her world famous potato salad, or how I wanted her with us when we first visited Disneyland with Lilith because she was there for my first Disney trip… Seeking out an online grief support group helped immensely; talking with others who understood how the pain can just suddenly creep up on you leaving behind a trail of tears and morose made such a difference. I didn’t feel like I needed to “suck it up, because she wouldn’t want me to be sad.” Well guess what? I was sad and I needed to experience that and having others understand that was incredibly healing.

I went ahead and dug out all of my old photo albums and spent hours reminiscing about family trips together, fights over breadsticks, how she taught my sister to forcefully burp lol even now as I cry while I type I’m still giggling at those past memories reminding me that the reason I feel so much pain is because she was SO loved and gave all her LOVE to those around her… including me.

Also, I still talk out loud to my GrammyBear… When my Mom is running over an hour late and I can just feel that my Grammy would be giving her crap and commiserating with me – I’ll say out-loud, “Well she’s late again Grandma.” And I can see her rolling her eyes and smiling at my mother’s antics. When Lilith picks up her favorite baby doll and hugs it, it’ll bring a tear to my eye but I’ll still say out loud, “Well Grams, it’s still her favorite.” And I can visualize the lit up smile that would grace her whole beautiful face in pride and joy. I recently had an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity and as I sat at her grave I told her everything about it… She may not have answered the way she use to be able to but I could feel her pride, her happiness and love for me. And that’s enough…

So the tips I have for you Loves while your suffering or preparing for loss:

– Feel the pain, let the tears run free, and take whatever time you may need for yourself.

– Accept that you’ll always miss this person and that’s OK.

– You have to keep moving forward, living in the past with regrets of what you did or didn’t say, or did and didn’t do won’t help you right now. They are listening and it’s never too late to say what you need to say.

– Talk to your passed Loved ones, they may not be able to answer but you should be able to feel their love just from invoking their memory to share something that’s happening currently in your life.

– If you are feeling like you are in a bad place mentally or physically don’t hesitate to reach out. You are not alone in your grief.

And lastly know that we all experience loss, we all have an expiration date and to live the life you’ve got to the best of your capabilities because who knows how long we’ve got – better to enjoy the time we have then to never take the time to stop and smell the roses…

Sending out so much and love and light to each of you.

Until next time,

Kat XO

See you again GrammyBear, love you with all of my heart and thank you…. for everything.
